Ingredients

Servings
4
  • 1 lb ground chuck
  • 8 count jumbo sesame seed buns
  • 1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
  • 4 slice American cheese
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.3 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp sweet relish
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 2 tsp water

Instructions

  1. 1

Combine mayonnaise, sweet relish, ketchup, and water in a small bowl. Mix well. This is the Big Boy special sauce.

  2. 2

Form beef into 8 equal thin patties, about 4 inches in diameter. Place on waxed paper.

  3. 3

Discard the top half of 4 buns — the remaining bottom halves serve as the middle 'club' bun in the triple-layer stack. Toast all bun pieces until golden.

  4. 4

Grill beef patties. Salt liberally. Cook 2 minutes per side. Season both sides.

  5. 5

Build each Big Boy from the bottom up: bottom bun, sauce, cheese slice, beef patty, middle bun (the extra bottom), shredded lettuce, second beef patty, tomato (optional), sauce, top bun.
