Slow Cooker Stifado

- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 lb stewing beef, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 3 large onions, peeled and diced
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 0.5 tsp ground cinnamon
- 0.5 tsp ground allspice
- 3 tbsp red wine vinegar
- 1 0.5 cup tomato sauce
- 1 tsp white sugar
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 cup crumbled feta cheese
Instructions

Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Brown beef in batches and transfer to a slow cooker.

Reduce heat to medium, add onions and cook until soft. Add garlic, cinnamon, and allspice; cook 1 minute.

Add vinegar, tomato sauce, sugar, and bay leaf; stir well. Pour mixture over meat in the slow cooker.

Cover and cook on Low for 8–10 hours or High for 4–5 hours, until beef is tender.

Stir in feta cheese, cover, and cook on High for 10 more minutes.

Discard bay leaf. Serve over buttered pasta or mashed potatoes.
