  • 1 c dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 c shortening
  • 1 t baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 3 c flour
  • 1/2 t baking soda
  • 1/2 c milk

Instructions

    Place all dry ingredients in a large bowl and mix by hand until well blended.

    Mix in egg and milk.

  3. 3

    Place batter into greased muffin pan or muffin-top pan.

  4. 4

    Bake at 350 for 10 to 15 minutes, depending on desired level of doneness.

  5. 5

    Serve hot or cold. They are excellent dunked in hot tea.
